The Selk’nam, also known as the Onawo or Ona people are an indigenous people in the Patagonian region of southern Chile and Argentina, including the Tierra del Fuego islands. They were one of the last aboriginal groups in South America to be reached by Westerners in the late 19th century, when the Chilean and Argentine governments began efforts to explore and integrate Tierra del Fuego (literally, the “land of fire” based on early European explorers observing Selk’nam smoke from their bonfires).

Sunlight comes only rarely, with a sliver slicing down between the ramshackle towers. The light here is fluorescent and the people packed sardine tight amongst twisting corridors. Some of the lower levels are widely considered uninhabitable due to trash. Up the street (if it can be called that) there’s a drug parlor with an unlicensed “doctor” open for business upstairs. They exist openly: there are no police because there is no law.
The above is not a description of a dystopian (or utopian) fantasia, but of the Kowloon Walled City which was very real. From 1945-1993, a political loophole created a zone of Hong Kong where there was no law. The resulting anarchic, hodge-podge monolith was the descendant of the pirate utopias of old: a testament to humanity’s ingenuity, greed, violence and tenacity. Here is a glimpse within the walls of one of the strangest human settlements ever.

The story goes like this: it’s 1898 and, at the height of their imperial power, the British have just forced the Chinese to sign away the Kowloon Peninsula for the next 99 years. There is one exception, however, as the British agree to let a small magistrate’s fort remain until they set up their colonial administration. The Chinese leave, but when the British attack the fort, they find it abandoned. So, like any good colonial bureaucrat, they scratch their heads before promptly turning it into a tourist attraction and ignore its murky legal status.
Along comes World War II, and the Japanese, after taking Hong Kong, tear down the walls to build an airport. After the war, squatters flock to the area and begin to build. Attempts to evict them end, twice, end in riots that threaten to cause a diplomatic incident. The British go back to ignoring the place. The population grows exponentially, and by 1971 there are 10,000 people living on seven acres. It attracts the usual types drawn to undiscovered countries: criminals, dreamers, dissidents, refugees and the plain desperate.

But even as the buildings practically merge into one monolithic labyrinth, people manage to build a life in the Walled City. The communities work out basic rules to prevent fires, sink over 70 wells or tap into city supplies to get water (Hong Kong ends up providing it), set height limits on the buildings to prevent trouble with the nearby airport and establish volunteer groups to keep some basic order.
But this is still a lawless place. Driven from mainland China, the Triads set up shop and start living like kings, while Hong Kong’s upper crust comes in for the sex, drugs and gambling. The gangsters end up lording it over the inhabitants until 3,000 raids by the Hong Kong police in the 1970s clear most of them out (though it leaves the city ungoverned as ever).

After the Triad recedes, the city thrives, the population multiplies to 35,000 (making it one of the most densely populated places on the planet), and by most accounts, the violent crime rate is lower than similar neighborhoods in the rest of the city. Doctors and entrepreneurs who can’t afford the licenses in Hong Kong set up shop and make a fortune.
But, thing change as the handover to China approaches. Neither country’s government particularly likes the filthy uncontrolled pocket that their nearly century long dispute has created. An agreement is made, the residents are moved out and, in 1993 the whole staggering structure is demolished. Today, it’s a park.

"Nathalie Daoust’s latest project, Tokyo Hotel Story, continues her exploration of female sexuality and subversion of gender stereotypes. Spending several months in the Alpha In, one of the biggest S&M “love hotels” in Japan. Daoust photographed 39 women in their private rooms, surrounded by the specialist equipment and dressed in the regalia that define their trade. Her work takes the viewer beyond taboos while showing the universal human desire to escape reality and create fantasy worlds that often oscillate between dream, reality and perversion."

All images are photographed on analogue film and hand printed in a darkroom. This allows Nathalie to manipulate the negatives more faithfully to the images she felt and saw in her mind’s eye at the time of shooting.

Impressive, atmospheric, just a little frightening, the long black and red hooded and robed figures of the Procession de la Sanch march slowly through the streets of Perpignan to the solemn beat of black veiled tambourines The Procession de la Sanch, which takes place every ’Vendredi Saint’, (Good Friday), opens the celebration of the Easter Holy week.
The brotherhood of “La Sanch” (the blood) was founded in1416 by Vincent Ferrier at the church of St Jaques in Perpignan, its origin to assist and accompany the condemned to their execution. A preacher, Ferrier is said to have undergone a life changing experience in 1398 when he nearly died of the fever, but was miraculously cured after Christ appeared to him in an apparition. He attracted followers, penitents from all walks of life, who he led around Europe, preaching penance and helping sinners to prepare for judgment and punishment. The wearing of the black and red hooded robes (orcaparutxe) was to prevent criminals being recognized and ‘lynched’ in the streets as pay back for crimes committed, and prisoners, penitents, (there to give solace to the person about to die), and executioner were hooded for maximum confusion.

The procession as a whole commemorates the Passion and the Agony of Christ. At the head of the parade walks a red robed figure “le regidor”, warning the crowds of the procession’s approach. by intermittently ringing an iron bell as he leads the penitents to the gallows. They carry ‘misteris’ (full-size representationhttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifs of the different scenes of the Passion) through the streets of Perpignan. Of course, over the years the Sanch has become a great crowd puller and a fabulous photo opportunity but for the ‘penitents’ carrying crosses, crucifixes and religious statues weighing up to thirty to fifty kilos, this re- enactment of Christ’s Passion is real enough. The procession takes place in silence – some walk bare-foot, others are on their knees…... only the sound of the tambourine, and the occasional peal of the bell breaks the eerie atmosphere, along with the Goigs, traditional Easter songs which accompany the march.
Over the centuries the Sanch has been forbidden several times. It has always survived.

In this piece, Abramovic once again explores the dynamics of pain, violence and self-destruction. In the first performance of this piece in 1973, she recorded the “rhythmic melody” of the sounds made as she plunged a knife rapidly between the fingers of her outstretched hand, changing knives each time she stabbed her hand- rather than the surface on which her hand rested- until she had used ten knives.

Playing the tape back, she repeated the performance using the recording as a “score” to duplicate the same actions and injuries as the same moments. At once a feat of extraordinary concentration and a scene of repetitous self-mutilation, Rhythm 10 amplifies the way in which women sometimes engage in self-sabotage.

From foot-binding to obsessive dieting, diverse cultural energy has been dedicated to deforming women’s bodies, often with women’s own masochistic consent.

Pierre Molinier (April 13, 1900 - March 3, 1976) was a painter, photographer and "maker of objects". He was born in Agen (France) and lived his life in Bordeaux (France). He began his career by painting landscapes, but his work turned towards a fetishistic eroticism early on.

Molinier began to take photographs at the age of 18. When Molinier's sister died in 1918, he is alleged to have had sex with her corpse while left alone to photograph it. "'Even dead, she was beautiful. I shot sperm on her stomach and legs, and onto the First Communion dress she was wearing. She took with her into death the best of me." [1]

Molinier started his erotic production around 1950. With the aid of a wide range of specially made 'props' – dolls, various prosthetic limbs, stiletto heels, dildos and an occasional confidante – Pierre Molinier focused upon his own body as the armature for a constructive form that ultimately produced a large body of photographic work. Most of his photographs, photomontages, are self-portraits of himself as a woman.

He began a correspondence with André Breton and sent him photographs of his paintings. Later Breton integrated him into the Surrealist group. Breton organized an exhibition of Molinier's paintings in Paris, in January-February 1956.

Pierre Molinier's enigmatic photographs have influenced European and North American body artists since the 1970s, including Jürgen Klauke, Cindy Sherman and Ron Athey, and his work continues to engage artists, critics, and collectors today.

First off, in case you are confused, the photograph above is of a male Eunich. A eunuch is a castrated man; Castration- is any action, surgical,chemical, or otherwise, by which a male loses the functions of the testicles or a female loses the functions of the ovaries. In ancient China castration was both a traditional punishment and a means of gaining employment in the Imperial service.

Such eunuchs were known as castrati. Unfortunately the choice had to be made at an age when the boy would not yet be able to consciously choose whether to sacrifice his sexual potency, and there was no guarantee that the voice would remain of musical excellence after the operation. Castrati were young boys, who were castrated (had their testicles removed) before they hit puberty, to ensure that their voices would not “break”. The result of the operation was that the boy would grow up being able to sing with the same voice as a boy soprano, but with the strength of a man.

In the 1920s a number of Modernist designers, artists and architects set out to devise an appropriate dress for the new era in which they were living. Some male architects thought that the traditional tailored suit, particularly the English suit, expressed the very principles of simplicity, standardisation and lack of ornament that also applied to contemporary architecture. Others, like the spiritually oriented Bauhaus teacher Johannes Itten, adopted a kind of monastic robe. There was, however, a category of dress that evoked the idea of the factory and identified the wearer as a worker or technocrat. It wasbased on either the technician’s jacket or, more commonly, the boiler suit or overall.

Rodchenko’s single-piece overall was made by his wife Varvara Stepanova, and shortly afterwards she published an article in which she described it as ‘prozodezhda’ or production clothing. It presented Rodchenko as a worker, dressed in an everyday garment that would in theory be familiar to many and would suggest the forward-looking, technological agenda of Modernism. As a workers’ uniform, it also suggested the collective nature of Soviet society.

The garment was made of stiff wool. This suited the climate of the Soviet Union but also the design, in which the pattern pieces were geometric in form rather than close fitting. All the edges that would get wear were trimmed in leather.

The design was an experimental one and, like so many Soviet designs, was never put into production, owing to the lack of resources in the difficult economic circumstances of the post-revolutionary period.

Interested in the limits of mental and physical endurance, influential performance artist Marina Abramovic has used her body as the subject and medium of her work since the early 1970s. Though not her medium directly, photography has also played an important part in her career, documenting performances and so providing the only extant time-based traces of those temporal acts. The series Performance Edition 1970-75 uses one photograph and one text panel each to represent performances for which there no longer is (or never was) film or video documentation. The text of Lips of Thomas explains that 1973 performance:

Abramovic first performed Lips of Thomas at Galerie Krinzinger, Innsbruck in 1973, then restaged it in 2005 at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York as part of Seven Easy Pieces, a series of seven performances in which Abramovic reenacted landmark performance work by Vito Acconci, Joseph Beuys, VALIE EXPORT, Bruce Nauman, and Gina Pane.

Abramovic was born on November 30, 1946 in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. She studied from 1965-70 at Academy of Fine Arts, Belgrade, and did graduate studies from 1970-72 at Radionica Krsta Hegedusica, Academy of Fine Arts, Zagreb, Croatia. Her performances include The Great Wall Walk (1988), and she is the recipient of the Golden Lion Award for Best Artist XLVII Biennale di Venezia (1997), Niedersächsicher Kunstpreis (2003), and New York Dance and Performance Award (2003). The MoCP included Abramovic’s work in its exhibition Camera/Action: Performance and Photography, October 15 through December 23, 2004. Abramovic has taught in Paris, France; Novi Sad, Yugoslavia; and Berlin, Hamburg, and Braunschmeig, Germany. She lives in Amsterdam and New York.

Jaroslav Rössler (25 May 1902, Smilov – 5 January 1990, Prague) was a pioneer of Czech avant-garde photography and a member of the association of Czech avant-garde artists Devětsil (Butterbur).

From 1917 to 1920, Rössler studied in the atelier of the company owned by renowned Czech photographer František Drtikol. Subsequently, he worked with the company as a laboratory technician. As a 21 years old, he began collaboration with the art theorist Karel Teige, who assigned him to create typographic layout for magazines Pásmo, Disk, Stavba and ReD (Revue Devětsilu). While working on these tasks, Rössler deepened his knowledge of photographic methods. In his works he utilized and combined the techniques of photogram, photomontage, collage and drawing. The beginnings of his photographic work were influenced by Cubism and Futurism, but he also attempted to create the first abstract photographs. In 1923, he became a member of the avant-garde association Devětsil.

In 1925, he went on a six month study visit to Paris. The same year he began working as a

photographer in the Osvobozené divadlo in Prague. Before his second departure to Paris, he co-worked as a commercial photographer with the pictorial magazine Pestrý týden.In 1927, Rössler moved to Paris together with his wife, Gertruda Fischerová (1894–1976). Initially, he focused on commercial photography. He collaborated with the experimental studio of Lucien Lorell, and worked on commissions for notable companies such as Michelin and Shell. However, later he found an interest in the “street life” of Paris, which influenced his future stay in the city. During a demonstration, he encountered the protesters and took photographs of the event. Shortly after that he was arrested, and after a six-month imprisonment he was expelled from the country, in 1935. The alleged reason for his expulsion was his German-sounding surname.After his return from Paris, Rössler and his wife resided in Prague, Žižkov. He opened a small photographic atelier, but difficulties associated with the management of the studio caused a significant gap in his artistic work, lasting for almost two decades.In the 1950s, he resumed his previous activities and again began experimenting with the camera and photographic techniques. He created so-called “prizmata” (prisms), photographs taken through a birefringent prism. Additionally, he experimented with solarisation and explored the possibilities of the Sabatier effect.

In the heady world of Parisian cabarets, several went on to become household names: the Moulin Rouge, the Gran-Guignol… but the streets of Montmarte were packed with countless more that have since fallen beneath the veil of obscurity. Some of those even took after their namesakes, such as the Cabaret du Néant, the cabaret of death.
The 1899 book Bohemian Paris of To-day, by William Chambers Morrow, included an account that captured the goings on at this unique and morbid enterprize:

“As we neared the Place we saw on the opposite side of the street two flickering iron lanterns that threw a ghastly green light down upon the barred dead-black shutters of the building, and caught the faces of the passers-by with sickly rays that took out all the life and transformed them into the semblance of corpses. Edward Mordrake was a 19th century English nobleman who had an extra face on the back of his head. According to the story, the extra face could neither eat nor speak, but it could laugh and cry. Edward begged doctors to have his ‘devil twin’ removed, because, supposedly, it whispered horrible things to him at night, but no doctor would attempt it. He committed suicide at the age of 23 by poisoning himself because he could no longer stand having to live with the face on the back of his head.

The people in Egypt are under governmental siege. Mubarak regime is banning Facebook, Twitter, and all other popular internet sites Now, the internet are completely blocked in Egypt. Tomorrow the government will block the 3 mobile phone network will be completely blocked.

And there is news that even the phone landlines will be cut tomorrow, to prevent any news agency from following what will happen.

Suez city is already under siege now. The government cut the water supply and electricity, people, including, children and elderly are suffering there now. The patients in hospitals cannot get urgent medical care. The injured protesters are lying in the streets and the riot police are preventing people from helping them. The families of the killed protesters cannot get the bodies of their sons to bury them. This picture is the same in north Saini (El-Sheikh zoyad city) and in western Egypt (Al-salom). The riot police is cracking down on protesters in Ismailia, Alexandria, Fayoum, Shbin Elkoum, and Cairo, the capital, in many neighborhoods across the city.

The government is preparing to crackdown on the protesters in all Egyptian cities. They are using tear gas bombs, rubber and plastic pullets, chemicals like dilutes mustard gas against protesters. Several protesters today have been killed when the armored vehicles of the riot police hit them. Officials in plain clothes carrying blades and knives used to intimidate protesters. Thugs deployed by the Egyptian Ministry of Interior are roaming the streets of Cairo, setting fire on car-wheels as means of black propaganda to demonize protesters and justify police beatings and state torture

All this has been taken place over the past three days during the peaceful demonstrations in Cairo and other cities. Now, with the suspicious silence of the local media and the lack of coverage from the international media, Mubarak and his gang are blocking all the channels that can tell the world about what is happening.

People who call for their freedom need your support and help. Will you give them a hand?

The activists are flooding the net (youtube and other sites) with thousands of pictures and videos showing the riot police firing on armless people. The police started to use ammunition against protesters. 15-year old girl has been injured and another 25 year old man has been shot in the mouth. While nothing of these has appeared in the media, there is more to happen tomorrow. Will you keep silent? Will you keep your mouth shut while seeing all these cruelty and inhumane actions?

On May 1, 1947, Evelyn McHale leapt to her death from the observation deck of the Empire State Building. Photographer Robert Wiles took a photo of McHale a few minutes after her death.

The photo ran a couple of weeks later in Life magazine accompanied by the following caption:

“On May Day, just after leaving her fiancé, 23-year-old Evelyn McHale wrote a note. ‘He is much better off without me … I wouldn’t make a good wife for anybody,’ … Then she crossed it out. The above picture appeared in several different editions of the magnificent, multi-volume JAPAN - DESCRIBED AND ILLUSTRATED BY THE JAPANESE. Published in Boston in 1897, the text was written by the Japanese themselves, and all of the real, tipped-in images were photographed, printed and tinted by the Japanese as well. These were the images they were proud of, and the culture that they wanted to show the readers of America.

Old Japan hand Captain Brinkley of the JAPAN MAIL edited the material, and the translations were done by the best there were.

The following is the caption published in 1897 to describe the above photo :

"........THE YOSHIWARA IN TOKYO. This section of the city is built within an enclosure having a single entrance, and is under the supervision of the municipal government. The streets are wide and well paved, and the houses are larger, costlier and of better construction than prevail throughout the city outside. There are three districts in Tokyo, the principal one having 150 houses [such as seen above] containing over 3,000 inmates, and each of the others about half as many. There are similar institutions in every large Japanese city, aggregating 18,000 houses containing about 250,000 inmates......"

Notice that there were three of these huge "Yoshiwara" brothel districts in Tokyo alone. Yokohama's brothels were even more ornate, and famous around the world.

Twice, the careful and unabashed translation calls the girls in servitude here, "inmates".

Notice the wooden bars behind which the girls will gather. The white paper screens behind the bars will be slid aside, and the seated women displayed for the prospective customers. The men would gather leer at them while leaning on the heavy wooden railings you see --- keeping them from touching the girls...until they paid up and went in.

Multiply what you see in this photo by [at least] 18,000 times around Japan.

And, the entire operation was supervised by the City, State, and Local Governments.

With both Government and Social approval, young girls were bought and sold by the thousands and tens-of-thousands, keeping that conservative number of "250,000 inmates" constantly refreshed with the innocence of youth, while spitting out the "older", broken, and hopeless ones at the first sign of commercial uselessness.

The Yad Vashem Memorial has stated that the Nazis did not produce soap from Jewish corpses on an industrial scale, saying that rumors that soap from human corpses was being mass-produced and distributed were used by the Nazis to frighten camp inmates. Evidence does exist, however, which indicate the possibility that research facilities had developed a process for the industrial production of soap from human bodies.

Felicia Felix-Mentor reportedly died in 1907, after a sudden illness of the type that Haitian belief finds to be characteristic of a person marked to be made into a zombie. Vollmer was balancing a water tumbler on her head as her husband aimed a handgun at it. Some enterprising female entertainer encountered the article and realized the story might be used as a great vaudeville piece about the evils of card play and alcohol. Touring performers were always searching for material that would play well in the sticks. The city folks would enjoy the Grand Guignol staging, the traditional song, and the vocal technique. Here Joseph Hall, the Brooklyn born photographer who had made a career on baseball pictures and theatrical production stills, captured the sequence of the action, providing a peculiarly detailed & rare view of the progress of a single vaudeville performance.

The Chair of Torture

Also known as the Judas Chair, the Chair of Torture was a terrible device of the Middle Ages. It was used until the late 1800’s in Europe.

There are many variants of the chair. They all have one thing in common: spikes cover the back, arm-rests, seat, leg-rests and foot-rests. The number of spikes in one of these chairs ranges from 500 to 1,500. To avoid movement, the victim’s wrists were tied to the chair or, in one version, two bars pushed the arms against arm-rests for the spikes to penetrate the flesh even further. In some versions, there were holes under the chair’s bottom where the torturer placed coal to cause severe burns while the victim still remained conscious.

This instrument’s strength lies primarily in the psychological fear caused on the victims. It was a common practice to extract a confession by forcing the victim to watch someone else be tortured with this instrument. The time of death greatly varied ranging from a few hours to a day or more. No spike penetrated any vital organ and the wound was closed by the spike itself which delayed blood loss greatly.

Meditation is also completely free. It requires no special equipment, and is not complicated to learn. It can be practiced anywhere, at any given moment, and it is not time consuming (15-30 min. once or twice a day is good). Best of all, meditation has no negative side effects. Bottom line, there is nothing but positive to be gained from it! With such a huge list of benefits, the question you should ask yourself is, “why am I not meditating yet?”

If you need a point to start from, here are some tips followed by a simple technique.

Some tips for your meditation practice:

Try to meditate at the same time each day. Early in the morning after you have rested is best before you begin the day.
Find a spot and sit in the same place every time you meditate. Make this a sacred place, a place of prayer.
Meditate when you are wide-awake and do not meditate on a full stomach as this may cause you to be sleepy.
Set a spiritual atmosphere before meditation by reading from the scriptures, singing a spiritual song, saying a prayer or poem. Try to put yourself in the mood of devotion and longing for God.
Sit with all humility knowing that it is God’s will to bless you with divine experiences.
Start with shorter sittings and build to a half hour, an hour, and eventually two or more hours.
Leading an ethical life creates the conditions conducive to meditation.
The So Hum meditation is a simple but powerful technique that uses the breath and the repetition of a mantra to quiet the mind and relax the body. This meditation will help take your awareness from a state of constriction to a state of expanded consciousness.

Choose a place where you won’t be disturbed. Sit in a chair or on the floor, using blankets and pillows to make yourself as comfortable as possible. Make sure your spine is straight and erect, so energy will flow throughout the body.
Close your eyes and for a few minutes and take a few moments to observe the inflow and outflow of your breath.
Now take a slow, deep breath through your nose, while thinking or silently repeating the word So.
Then slowly exhale through your nose while silently repeating the word Hum. Continue to allow your breath to flow easily, silently repeating So … Hum … with each inflow and outflow of the breath. Whenever your attention drifts to thoughts in your mind, sounds in the environment, or sensations in your body, gently return to your breath, silently repeating So … Hum.

Do this process for 20 to 30 minutes. Just breathe easily and effortlessly, without trying to concentrate. Just allow the peace and calm to soak into your body, and you will carry some of this peace and calm with you as you move into the activities of your day
This procedure is suitable for anyone. For relaxation purposes, it can be completed in approximately 20 minutes. This is the simple mantra meditation routine. A mantra (from Sanskrit manas, mind, thinking principal; tra, to protect and take beyond) serves as a focusing device to keep attention removed from involvement with random thoughts and emotional states. When breathing is slow and refined, and when thoughts and emotions are calmed, clear states of awareness are naturally experienced. The influence of meditative calmness on the mind and body produces positive effects.

For best results, meditate daily for 20 minutes once or twice a day. Mornings and evenings are recommended. Do this for at least 30 days before evaluating the results. If meditation is included in your daily religious practice, when you first sit, pray in your customary way until you are peaceful and somewhat aware of being immersed in the presence of God. It may be that meditation will naturally occur. If not, use your chosen words to keep your attention flowing inward. When you acquire proficiency in meditation practice, you may wish to extend the session by calmly contemplating your relationship with the Infinite, or just sit longer in the conscious, calm state until you feel peaceful and fulfilled. Regular meditation practice and a harmonious relationship with nature and other people enables us to live effectively, enjoyably, and successfully.

After that he began waking up in the morning with a transparent jelly like a tadpole’s tail all over his mouth. This jelly was what the scientists call un-D.T., Undifferentiated Tissue, which can grow into any kind of flesh on the human body. He would tear it off his mouth and the pieces would stick to his hands like burning gasoline jelly and grow there, grow anywhere on him a glob of it fell. So finally his mouth sealed over, and the whole head would have have amputated spontaneous — (did you know there is a condition occurs in parts of Africa and only among Negroes where the little toe amputates spontaneously?) — except for the eyes you dig. Thats one thing the assholecouldn’t do was see. It needed the eyes. But nerve connections were blocked and infiltrated and atrophied so the brain couldn’t give orders any more. It was trapped in the skull, sealed off. For a while you could see the silent, helpless suffering of the brain behind the eyes, then finally the brain must have died, because the eyes went out, and there was no more feeling in them than a crab’s eyes on the end of a stalk.

Not that I live through it in body and mind, as he does - but in a sense I go through his pain. […] My purpose is not to make the viewer fearful, but to open his mind to the mystery of what is shown. That’s what is ethical - to use your word - in such a photograph. But in order to hold the viewer’s attention, I have to do more than shock or horrify him - or he won’t stay with the image.

The Las Lajas Cathedral is located in southern Colombia and built in 1916 inside the canyon of the Guaitara River . According to the legend, this was the place where an Indian woman named Mara Mueses de Quiones was carrying her deaf-mute daughter Rosa on her back near Las Lajas (“The Rocks”). Weary of the climb, the Mara sat down on a rock when Rosa spoke (for the first time) about an apparition in a cave. Later on, a mysterious painting of Grottu Orloff was discovered on the wall of the cave. Supposedly, studies of the painting showed no proof of paint or pigments on the rock – instead, when a core sample was taken, it was found that the colors were impregnated in the rock itself to a depth of several feet. Whether true or not, the legend spurred the building of this amazing church.

Πρόσφατα ξαναβρήκα μπροστά μου το αριστούργημα capsule tower του Kisho Kurokawa που κατασκευάστηκε το 1972 στο Tokyo φυσικά.
Αποτελείται από επιμέρους διαμερίσματα το καθένα σε σχηματισμό κουτιού ή κάψουλας, είναι προ-συναρμολογημένα σε ένα εργοστάσιο και τα οποία στη συνέχεια συνδέονταν με γερανό πάνω από ένα συγκεκριμένο άξονα μέχρι αυτή η υπερκατασκευή να σχηματίσει αυτό τον πύργο. Κάθε κάψουλα συμπεριλαμβάνει έπιπλα και συσκευές όπως τηλέφωνα και τηλεοράσεις με μία retro αισθητική νοσταλγίας από το μέλλον.
Οι κάψουλες έχουν σχεδιαστεί για μεμονωμένα άτομα. Η συνολική μορφή δεν είναι σταθερή, οι μονάδες είναι αποσπώμενες και η κατασκευή εξελίσσεται προκειμένου να μείνει βιώσιμη και διαχρονική με την αντικατάσταση και ανακύκλωση μέρους της.

Τελικά υπάρχουν πολλοί δημιουργικοί τρόποι για να χρησιμοποιείται το Ableton Live πέρα από το να γράφεις μουσική και να φτιάχνεις remixes, αλλά δεν το έχουμε ξαναδεί να χρησιμοποιείται ως εργαλείο ζωγραφική! Ο Santiago Luini (γνωστός και ως Zantho) είναι techtools reader που πρόσφατα άρχισε να δημιουργεί pixel art χρησιμοποιώντας χρώματα από κλιπς του Ableton για να ζωγραφίσει. Δεν μπορείτε παρά να αγαπήσετε αυτήν την χαμηλή bit ποιότητα και το τρόπο με τον οποίο το Ableton δημιουργεί εκ νέου ένα νέο διασκεδαστικό τρόπο δράσης.

You have to hand it to the Japanese, they know violence sells and they market it like no other country can.

But this has to be the dumbest sport in history, two fat guys pounding each other with neon-rods until they’re both soaked in blood? I have no idea what this sport is called or who came up with the idea, but apparently it’s very popular in the Land of the Rising Sun, despite it’s obvious stupidity. I’d rather watch some K1 or UFC any day, this is just like wrestling only with real blood.

I wonder if those lamps are mercury free…if they’re not, do the fat guys know they could die from mercury poisoning?

Κάτω από τους πολυσύχναστους δρόμους της Νέας Υόρκης βρίσκετε ένα τέλεια διατηρημένο μνημείο από την ιστορίας της πόλης. Η στάση City Hall Subway Station, αρχικά κατασκευάστηκε πριν από 100 χρόνια. Το 1945 έκλεισε οριστικά και έμεινε στη νάρκη ανέγγιχτο μέχρι ένα βράδυ που έγεινε μια δημόσια έκθεση για των εορτασμό τις εκατονταετίας του. Ο οργανισμός NYCSubway.org και ο φωτογράφος Fred Guenther έχουν αποτυπώση αυτό το γεγονός με μια μεγάλη συλλογή από φωτογραφίες αυτού του καταπληκτικού μνημείου που εγκαταλείφτηκε και στέκεστε εκεί με μια ανέγγιχτη δόξα.

The sculptor, Fan Xiaoyan was born in 1983 in Gaomi. In 2008 she graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts and now lives and works in Beijing.

Fan herself says that her work proclaims “the arrival of a new era, a new kind of human being, a new power, a new sensation... a surrealistic virtual world in which men and women are equal”. Certainly, the violent contrast between pink flesh and cold, hard steel in Fang’s works gives rise to an intense visual and psychological shock. The unbearability of enduring such heavy attachments gives rise to a kind of strength and sweetness.

“Despite the overtly fetishistic quality of the sculpture with its pronounced sadomasochistic overtones normally associated with male fantasy, it is the work of a woman. This gives rise to interesting cultural and sexual issues, raising questions as to whether men and women project differing significations onto a visual artifact. Is the comment "It would have a completely different meaning if it had been made by a man“ justifiable? Does an object retain distinct significance due to original intent or does it attain independence once released by its creator? Is an artifact endowed with meaning by the viewer or by the artist? Whatever the answers, this is a remarkable work of art which would be hard to ignore on any level.”

Η επιλογή του ασπρόμαυρου φίλμ, είτε έγινε συνειδητά, είτε υποχρεωτικά, βοηθά στο δέσιμο όλων των εξαρτημάτων που σχηματίζουν έναν άκρως ρεαλιστικό εφιάλτη εγκλωβισμού σε αξεπέραστους κινδύνους.

Το προσωπικό ταξίδι του πρωταγωνιστή, τοποθετείται απροσδιόριστα σε μία διάσταση που κλείνεται ανάμεσα στις αναμνήσεις και στα όνειρα, στην πραγματικότητα και στη φαντασία, στο παρελθόν και στο μέλλον, στα παιδικά τραύματα και στα ανώμαλα απωθημένα. Ο Shinya Tsukamoto γράφει, σκηνοθετεί, φωτογραφίζει, πρωταγωνιστεί και μοντάρει ένα από τα σημαντικότερα cyberpunk αριστουργήματα του παγκόσμιου κινηματογράφου, που έχει τη δύναμη να σοκάρει, να συγκινεί, και να προβληματίζει, με τη σχιζοφρένεια των εικόνων, με την παράνοια των χαρακτήρων, με το σπινταριστό μοντάζ, με την εκκωφαντικά σκουριασμένη μεταλλική μουσική, και τη χρήση μερικών από τις πιο συγκλονιστικές stop-motion ακολουθίες που έχουν γυριστεί ποτέ.
